The citizens of Israel and the United States no longer need a visa to travel to Bolivia, by eliminating on Wednesday the interim government of the South American country that requirement established at the time of Evo Morales.

“Our Government has determined to eliminate visas for the entry of citizens from two countries that are very important, who have always contributed greatly in the development of tourism and investment in all regions of Bolivia,” said the interim president of the Country, Jeanine Áñez.

The interim president signed the decree that eliminates a requirement that Morales established between political differences with both countries at the Burned Palace in La Paz.

CONTRIBUTION TO TOURISM

The transitional president said that this determination will directly benefit the Amazonian department of Beni, especially the town of Rurrenabaque, one of the tourist destinations very much required by the Israelis.

“We are sure that the determinations adopted today by our Government will be a new contribution to the development of tourism in the destination of Rurrenabaque and in general throughout the country,” he said.

Since 2014, Israeli tourists are required visas by decision of Evo Morales, a measure that affected tourism especially in that Amazonian town.

The acting Minister of the Presidency, Yerko Núñez, welcomed the determination of Áñez because he will help the so-called “industry without chimneys”, which he regretted that it has fallen to 50 percent in Rurrenabaque, affecting mostly restaurants, hotels and investments in tourism

“About 50,000 domestic and foreign tourists arrived until 2014, before that measure, that has been reduced to approximately 20,000 tourists,” said Nunez.

Rurrenabaque is a municipality on the banks of the Beni River, in an environment of great diversity of flora and fauna in areas such as Madidi National Park, considered the most biodiverse in the world; the Pampas de Yacuma, with attractions such as the river dolphins, and the Pilón-Lajas biosphere reserve, where several-day tour packages are offered that include hiking and boat trips.

UNITED STATES VISAS

Since January 2007, Americans who wanted to enter Bolivia as tourists had to process a visa with a cost of $ 160 to stay up to 90 days.

The Bolivian Government explained at the time that its decision to demand a visa from the Americans, shortly after Morales came to power, was a “measure of reciprocity”, since Bolivians also need it to be able to enter the United States.

The interim government of Áñez appointed after 11 years Walter Oscar Serrate as ambassador “on special mission” in the United States, not permanent, and announced the reestablishment of relations with Israel.

Morales broke in 2009 with Israel by accusing this country of genocide and crimes against humanity for an offensive in Gaza in which more than a thousand Palestinians died.
