GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL

PENN STATION AND THE MOYNIHAN TRAIN HALL

However, with the inauguration of the Moynihan Train Hall on January 1, 2021, Penn Station underwent a significant transformation. The new train hall expanded the concourse capacity by approximately 50%, restoring some of the station’s former grandeur.
The $1.6 billion renovation repurposed a substantial portion of New York City’s main United States Postal Service building on Eighth Avenue between 31st Street and 33rd Street. The Moynihan Train Hall boasts a stunning glass-vaulted atrium flooded with natural light. The massive steel trusses in the atrium harken back to the heyday of the original Penn Station, which was demolished in 1963 to make way for Madison Square Garden.
